Petaling Jaya Section 1

The first planned development in PJ, then known as Effingham Estate dating from 1952, Section 1 is known as "PJ Old Town" and forms part of the southern boundary of PJ. The area is residential with supporting commercial facilities. Housing stock is made up of approximately 515 landed bungalows dating back to the original development. Closeby is Section 4 Wet Market at junction of Jalan Othman and Jalan Selangor. Other facilities in neighbouring areas include a Bus Depot, Pejabat Islam and ITM and SRJK Petaling in Section 3. Beyond Section 2 and easily accessible from Section 1 lies Section 51, a major industrial and business centre of PJ. Bukit Gasing, one of the few remaining areas of secondary forest in PJ with superb views over KL and Klang Valley lies directly northeast. There are speedy direct links with the Federal Highway, all parts of PJ and Kuala Lumpur, Subang and Klang and Jalan Templer KMT Station lies next to the southeast corner of Section 1. An overhead roadbridge was built above the railway line and Jalan Klang Lama to enable commuting from Petaling Jaya Selatan to the Old Town.
