Hi,

Just would like to seek your opinion and advice. =)

The agreement that my landlord and I had with the room that I'm renting out is that I would just need to tell him 2 months in advance that I'd be moving out and within that 2 months, I don't need to pay rental anymore (I paid 2 months deposit, 1 month rental).

The thing is, he is into this financial mess and that around August, he has been asking for an advance rental. On the third month after that, I told him that I would like to move out already. The thing is, since he cannot afford not to have my rent payment at that time, I still handed over a month's worth of rental in the condition that he'd return to me when I move out.

I think he's so deep in his financial problem that during new year, he tried to borrow RM200 from me. When I declined, he even offered to drive me to ATM so that I can withdraw money for him. Well, since he had been lying to me the whole time about most of the things, I didn't trust him anymore thus, I didn't lend him the money.

Now, I'm moving out next week. I'm trying to collect even just the half of my rental but he said he would be giving it to me after I move out.

I don't want to stay for another month - my AC is not working anymore, we don't have Streamyx anymore as he didn't settle the bill, the iron is not working anymore... plus the fact that I don't want to waste my energy confronting him as he'd give again crap excuses.

So, any idea how to collect my RM650?

Thanks.

Is the monthly rental $650? I don't think you can collect the $650. Just stay on for another month in lieu of that $650.

if he is in deep sh1t... i dun think he will pay u even half month or full month...
and if u can bear with the hse condition.. just stay there one more month and in the meantime,
look for another room to rent....

black and white is very important.. even u are just renting a room...
spend more money to avoid all these in the future.. i know a lot of ppl who dun go into agreement signing.. and get into sh1t...

Most people do not draw up tenancy agreements when it comes to room rentals. Even when it comes to houses, this so-called black and white or tenancy agreement is solely dependant on the two parties being perfect gentlemen. It is fine in theory but doesnt work in practice for the average landlord or house owner. Try collecting rent from some thug hell bent on screwing you up then you will know tenancy agreements don't work in bolehland.

This is so unfortunate. It is really difficult to know who would be a good tenant or not. Sad
