What styles are you into? Some of my favourite players includes John Mclaughlin, Larry Carlton, Joe Satriani, Howard Roberts, Joni Mitchell, CSN&Y, Chet Atkins, Julian Bream, John Williams, Eric Clapton, Roy Buchanan, Mark Knopfler, etc.
Besides classical guitar I am also into blues, fingerpicking, rock but definitely not rap music.
BingYao, what do you play and listen to? |

Can you read music notation? (or can you read guitar tablature?)
You are just starting out to learn so pls dont think your gtr is crappy. If the action is high and therefore difficult to play, it will strengthen your fingers. All the things you will need to learn in order to overcome the deficiencies of your gtr will in the end make you a better player. If you start out with a super-duper gtr you may not end up being a top class player. Some of my friends who are the most amazing musicians I have ever met all started out with 'crap' guitars. Then after a year or so when you are playing better you can start looking to upgrade your guitar.

He is very, very good! Amazing!
You said you were into rock rythmns? Any specifics?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZTziYivOLA
This guy has amazing rythmn but its not rock.
If you are interested in Rock Rythmns listen to The Who and the classic Pinball Wizard and also the Doobie Brothers and the songs Listen To The Music and Long Train Runnin' .
Now thats what I call rock rythmn playing.

Friedrice link.. his finger is like jelly
and another link.. thats funtwo. he's not that good.. the original composer of canon rock is jerryc he is the real pro cause he can pull off more pinch harmonics and better slide.. but the original canon is from mozart. do you guys know that funtwo is broadcasted and intervied on CNN? damn.. he get really famous.. not jerrc!! unfair. |

BingYao & hostingsmartshop, I have just seen jerryc's performance on canon rock and I have to disagree with the both of you. I dont think jerryc is the composer, I think he did the arrangement. I prefer funtwo's performance. I would have to say funtwo is the better guitarist. His playing is 'cleaner' and the guitarwork is more precise. funtwo is technically better then jerryc. Maybe if you like pinch harmonics then you will say jerryc is better but overall guitar playing ability I would say funtwo wins hands down. Listen to the opening bars of canon rock when jerryc starts playing and then shakes his head, he seems to be struggling with his timing at that point. I will have to agree with CNN for picking funtwo as the better player.
The more I watch both performances, the more I am impressed funtwo's musicianship and technical expertise. Which pinched harmonics are you talkin about? How many mins/secs into the playing? I am asking cos I am not too familiar with these pinched harmonics.
2:11pm- Ok I just found this link |
