The author Daniel Reid in one of his books on Chinese herbal medicine mentioned a famous herbalist from China who could cure liver cancer. Unfortunately this doctor died about 10 years ago. He may however have students whom he may have left his herbal recipes for liver cancer.

Guan Youbo, an Expert on Liver Disease
Using centuries-old Chinese medical theory to treat liver ailments.
Not long ago China Today had the chance to visit Guan Youbo, a prominent doctor in traditional Chinese medicine.Still healthy and active today at the age of 82, Dr. Guan started practising medicine in the 1940's with several famous Chinese pharmaceutical companies and soon made a name for himself in the medical world. As a doctor at the Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, Guan has a very large patient roster, and many people will stand in line all night just for one consultation with him. Many Taiwanese have also journeyed to the mainland to seek his medical advice, and have taken back several packages of Guan's patented medicine Shiquan Wuji Jing, a concoction of black-boned chicken essence mixed with 10 different tonics. Guan now specializes in treating liver ailments, and has authored a set of theories on their prevention and treatment, including prescriptions for infectious hepatitis, chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis.
Guan's therapies and drugs have been many years in the making , and are the latest manifestation of previous concoctions like Guan's Extract for Hepatitis and Guan's Liver Preservation Pills. His diagnoses and treatments are based on a thorough analysis of symptoms, possible causes, the location of the illness and the patients physical condition, examined according to the basic theories of traditional Chinese medicine. Prescriptions are a combination of "monarch, minister, assistant and guide," symbolizing the curative powers of different Chinese medicines. Despite this somewhat hocus-pcus approach, Guan Youbo is the foremost doctor in China for comrehensive analysis and treatment of liver disease.
One of Guan's patients, named Ma, was diagnosed with viral hepatitis. He was sluggish, his skin had a distinctly yellow tinge, and he suffered from intense constipation, abdominal distension and xerostomia (abnormal dryness of the mouth). After Dr. Guan's treatment, Ma recovered completely and was able to resume a normal lifestyle. Several subsequent checkups showed that his liver had returned to normal, and he has been in comparatively good health ever since.
Guan Youbo comes from a long line of doctors. His father, Guan Yuebo, was also a famous physician specializing in traditional medicine. The younger Guan studied the different Chinese medical classics and soon joined his father to practice medicine in Beijing. For many years Guan's father never allowed his son to set up an independent practice, urging him instead to study hard and and practise the basic skills of traditional Chinese medicine again and again. Shortly before he died Guan Yuebo examines three of his son's cases and finally gave his blessing to his son as an independent practitioner.
In half a century Guan Youbo has made many friends with whom he can compare experiences and share theories. He told China Today that he enjoys taking part in consultations on different cases, seeing it as a good opportunity to learn more about the different branches of traditional Chinese medical theory. He has also mastered the basics of anatomy, physiology and pharmacology.
It is worth mentioning that Guan has cooperated with the Department of Liver Diseases at the Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine College to write a software program called "Guan Youbo's prescriptions for Liver Disease," a summary of his 50 years of experience. It has proved a great help to clinics and hospitals across China, and has won first prize in the Scientific and Technological Achievements category from the Municipality of Beijing. The program has been sold in Singapore and Malaysia, and may start appearing in other medical communities around the world.
Although many patients come to seek his advice, Guan schedules his work and leisure time very strictly. Every morning he reads or paints until 10 o'clock, then receives his first patients at 10 o'clock sharp. At non he takes a nap, and then reads and paints again. At four o'clock in the afternoon he sees patients. For several years he has folowed this pattern. At the age of 82 he still glows with health and vitality, earning him the reputation of expert in both liver diseases and longevity.
