Waiwai, this depends on which operating system (Windows XP or Windows Vista) you wish to install into the laptop. Free-Dos is certainly not an operating system which you would want to use everyday as it is basically a command line system (black & white) with no graphical user interface (meaning like the old system where you need to type out a command for things to run). Here is a basic rundown:

Windows XP
-------------

Your system will definitely run faster if you install Windows XP as the specifications above are at a minimum. Here's the problem, you will have an extremely hard time looking for the drivers online as well as installing them because certain drivers are required to be installed in a specific sequence. A suggestion is that maybe you can ask a local computer vendor to get everything done for you but I'm unsure if they do that here or not (I'm originally from Kuching). Just remember, the HP support website does not have Windows XP support for this laptop.

Windows Vista
----------------

If you have this operating system installed then you will have to tolerate with the extremely slow loading times and the many problems that comes operating system (you can try to read some reviews on the operating system first). Windows Vista is dubbed as the second Windows ME as it has many compatibility issues and not all programs are design to work with Windows Vista yet. BUT, the drivers for the laptop can be downloaded easily from the HP support website.

Now, I myself own HP Compaq Presario V3614AU laptop which is a higher end version of the one you mention above. It originally came with the Free-Dos operating system as well. But I brought my genuine Windows XP cd for the vendor to install for me and the vendor even copied a cd with all the relevant Windows XP drivers for me. This was done in Kuching which I'm sure it can be done here in KL as well. Since you're not buying from the vendor I believe a there will be a minimum charge for the service involved.

For the specifications of this laptop, I believe RM799 is a very good bargain. I won't mind helping you with the operating system if you really need help.

I hope this answers your question Smile .

I don't think this is a scam and if I'm not mistaken, this is the promotion for Citibank Shell Card holders right?

justabc, which model are you referring to?

For the HP Compaq Presario PC700, I'm not sure.

For the HP Compaq Presario V3614AU, it has 4 slots upgradable to a maximum of 4gb of memory.

If your laptop is still under warranty then I suggest you bring it to the place you bought your laptop from or to the manufacturer's sales and services centre to have the memory upgraded.

If your laptop's warranty has expired, unless you are very experienced with upgrading laptops, I suggest bringing it to a computer shop to have them do it for you.
