33% of Chinese Women Want Their Face to Look Like an Egg
Wednesday September 26,2007 China

Thirty-three percent of Chinese women who go under the knife do it to improve the contours of their faces, and among these, a large number are going for the "goose egg look," China Daily reported, citing a recent survey.

An oval face similar in shape to that of a goose egg has long been considered attractive in Chinese society.

The poll is recently conducted by Horizon Research Consultancy Group to 1,600 people aged 18 to 55 from Shanghai, Tianjin and Shenzhen. According to them, Chinese women most want to change the shape of their faces, while men most want straighter noses.

Among Chinese women, a face shaped like a goose egg and double eyelids were favorite. Fat removal from the stomach and waist ranked third, followed by liposuction of the legs.

In comparison, Chinese men were less concerned about fat and only 7.5 percent would consider liposuction. Nearly 45 percent of Chinese men said they wanted to straighten their noses to give them a more masculine look. Nearly 33 percent said they would consider double eyelid surgery, followed by cosmetic improvement of the teeth and face shaping.

Overall, the Caucasian look is now extremely popular in China, especially among Chinese women, characterised by the paper as "leggy, busty and skinny."

Many Chinese women also want breast implants to please their boyfriends and husbands, although the survey suggested that many Chinese men did not want their partner to have breast implants.

There are about 1 million cosmetic surgery operations performed every year in China, according to official estimates.
