Yes I know there are icons in the public domain and is free-to-use by any forum or website. The most important thing about the icons would be that they help in expressing an emotion thereby adding a nuance or a touch of colour to the posting so to speak. It would be quite pointless if the emotion represented by the icon is vague and ambiguous or just downright incomprehensible as that would just detract from the actual meaning of the postings.

The Yahoo Messenger icons are excellent and even those on this forum is quite good as can be clearly see:

Very Happy = very happy
Surprised = surprised
Confused = confused
Embarassed = embarassed
Sad = sad ...... etc .. the meanings are quite clearcut!

= is this Hapy Chinese New Year or what?

+ whats this? Look at my RayBan shades?

= Running and crying? but then running is an action .. not an emotion.

Those are Avatars you mentioned and are not used to express emotions and enhance postings. Those Avatars were introduced at the time when this forum had not yet implemented user upload of their own Avatars. Now that users can upload their own Avatars those Avatars are redundant and can be deleted with no qualms or reservations. Anyway most of them if not all of them are in the public domain and therefore without copyright issues.

This poll is basically to gauge the popularity or otherwise of an impending action. Of course its up to the Admin to decide what is the preference of the users and to act based on that decision. I am just saying that by judging the response of that 2-3 votes in the poll then maybe the users have clearly indicated their preference for the smileys/emoticons we are having now or they would have voted overwhelmingly in favor of the new smileys/emoticons proposed. So maybe its a case of 1 user requesting for new smileys/emoticons while the rest of the users are still happy and contented with the present ones.

That is an excellent set you have got there, ednew! Is it possible to see the smileys in their actual size. Yours seems to be enlarged beyond normal proportions.
