I'm helping my friend to cook for the homeless in Jalan Gereja, KL once a month and we are using St John's Church kitchen to do this. I've got PM from some friends in this forum offering services to help us and I have spoken to the organiser. But according to him it would greatly appreciated if some of you could donate foodstuff instead. Foodstuff like rice, milk, milo/coffee, sugar etc. No money please. A bag of rice would means alot to them.
Please do not PM me just to lecture on how we should not help those people. You see, I used to have the same thinking but in the end your concience will tell you what you are doing is right. God knows better, right? We are in no position to judge them, on how they end up in their position now. But some of them do change, the church help them to find a decent job. That is a reward itself. And I felt so small when they thank you for the food you cooked for them..
Before they have their meal, there will be a representative from among them (every race) reciting a prayer followed by someone from other church who has turn a new leaf. Just last Thursday I was fortunate to meet a fella who has spent 19 years of his life behind bars. He spoke at the gathering and something he said strike a cord... "Dear fellow; every GOD is the same, only the phone number is different"
Do PM me if you are interested to donate, I will arrange to collect it from you somewhere in PJ preferably. May God bless you. |
Will PM you my no. ok... |

Hi Tanti and Hi Everybody,
I'm new here. But I must share with you how much I am blessed to hear of what you all are doing. It's fantastic!
Every little bit goes a long way and by being there either to cook a meal, serve a meal, donate in kind, donate clothes and neccessities and even spending time talking with the homeless and destitute, makes a world of difference.
How timely it is for me to read your posting cos just yesterday I was at a Street Feeding program near Kota Raya. Every Saturday afternoon, some 200 homeless and destitute people go there for lunch. On a rare occasion, there are Good Samaritans who sponsor fruits or buns and when you see how much JOY it brings to the people, no words can describe it.
Just yesterday, I saw some street people rummaging through the dumpsters trying to salvage for food, rambutans and longan. They go hungry without a meal at times and to be able to have fruits, buns, cake is a luxury.
This feeding program on Saturday afternoon is done by Street Fellowship and volunteers. A doctor comes by and gives medical aid to the people then too.
The Street Fellowship centre is just above Bus Stand Klang and it's been set-up for people of all races, ages & backgrounds. It opens Tuesdays-Saturdays from 10am-6pm and offers the street people :-
1. A place to rest
2. A place to have fellowship
3. A place to bathe & wash-up
4. Snacks
They also provide:-
1. Counselling services
2. Medical services
3. Legal aid / advice
4. Personal grooming (hair-cut)
5. Referral & preparation for entry into centres for alcoholism, drug addiction, AIDS & home children, old folks etc.
They are also looking into it working as an Employment Point by:-
1. Giving work opportunities o restore dignity & self worth
2. Assist in assimilation back to society
3. Employment refferals/recommendation
4. Handiwork / Cottage industry
5. Assembly work
If you do know of companies / shops / establishments that need staff or know of simple work opportunities for these people, please do let me know.
The centre needs:-
1. Old Clothes for Men & Women
2. Shoes & Slippers
3. Bags
4. Towels
5. Soap
6. Toothpaste & Toothbrush
7. Biscuits
8. Maggi Mee
9. Milo
10. Tea
11. Coffee
12. Canned food
13. Double decker beds X2
14. Washing machine (it can be a used one)
15. Dryer (it can be a used one)
16. Fridge (it can be a used one)
17. DVD Player (it can be a used one)
18. Mini compo (it can be a used one)
If you do know of any friends and family who own a bakery and have bread/buns that have not been sold, instead of throwing them away, would they be interested in contributing towards the centre from Tuesday-Saturday? Or if you do know of anyone in the restaurant business that would like to help out, do let me know?
If you would like to sponsor a feeding either on the weekdays or Saturday lunch or would like to contribute in any way, do let me know, PM me.
Thanks very much and God bless you! |
