I'm a native Cantonese speaker, I think I can give you the best answer, haha... Laughing

In KL, as your friend told you, people say "yi mai shit" (yi mai = barley, shit = ice)

In HK, local people say "dong yi mai sui" (dong = cold, sui = water)

In China, Guangzhou people say "bing yi mai sui" (bing = ice)

Yes we all know more than 2 languages and at least one dialect. However, are we really master each and every of them? or just 50% of each language. when you talk about the language that you know, i guess we need to put a clear defination here. if you claim that you know about certain language, it means you are very fluent in it, speak in good standard. Not merely Malaysia English, malaysian mandarin, malaysian cantonese or chinese slang of Malay.

i think the closer pronounciation should be yit mai "shooit" more on the "sh".
I guess they employ foreign workers so there you have it ice becomes shit.
But we learn a new vocab! Smile
