What do you think of water filter?. Is it necessary in our home?.
Tie a piece of muslin cloth around your tap to act as a makeshift filter. Open it up to have look after 1 day use and you will have the answer to your own question.
For myself I am using a water filter from National which cost me something like RM100+ (about 15 years ago) and I just have to change the filter every 1-2 years which is really inexpensive. Or are you thinking of those gizmos like Diamond Water or whatever which costs and arm and a leg. Fr me as long as the water filter does its job I dont care if its Diamond Water or Gold Water of whatever. Please keep in mind that some are just marketing gimmicks. btw I am selling a Sapphire Water filter which costs about 10k. Would you be interested?

How can we gurantee after filtration, the water will be 'purified'!?. I mean, there's gotta b some simple test we can perform, can't we!? ... And no, the muslin test won't do. Sorry friedice...
Anyone care to enlighten 'curious me' !?

You can get chlorine test kits/strips at pet fish shops. I tested my National Water Filter which was able to remove all traces of chlorine from the tap. That is good enough for me. Of course if you want to split hairs and insist that it is able to remove all forms of bacteria/virus and pathogens then maybe the reasonably priced National Water Filters is not your kettle of fish. Maybe Diamond Water is more suitable for you or maybe even some filters based on distillation and/or reverse osmosis.
Me, I will stick with my National water filter and the good old kettle over the stove, i.e. boiling.
My suggestion of using muslin cloth was to show the amount of sediments in the piped water of Klang Valley esp PJ. Were you thinking of using a water filter and dispensing with boiling altogether?
Be careful. If you want a filter, there are a few things that you need to consider. I used to work for a healthcare company back in Singapore and got to know what you need to filter out. And since I'm working at Damansara Jaya (one of the WORST areas in PJ with contaminated water), let me tell you that you need to filter a few things, not just what you can SEE.
1) Sediments: easily solved, and all commercial household filters filter this
2) Chlorine and flouride: Again all commercial household filters get rid of this. Activated carbon is effective and it's cheap, so don't get conned!
3) Trace metals, mercury and other chemical compounds: See if you can get a filter with zeolite
4) Micro organisms and their carcasses: Some filters have certain technologies to kill microorganisms but unfortunately fail to get rid of the dead ones. The easy solution is to always filter your water, then boil it with a kettle. At 121 degrees celsius, all microorganisms die, but it also works at 100 degrees over a minute or so, and kettles do this.
Personally I'd rather recommend (for people NOT renting a place) one of those big bombs you put outside your house, but if you want to have a small filter for one tap only, make sure you change the filter (the thing inside that does the work for you) often.
Don't stinge on this. It's water! You'll be drinking it every day and/or night.
For those of you who'd prefer to drink RO or distilled water, my suggestion is to drink it in addition to drinking filtered water. Either alternate between them (like one week distilled, the other filtered) or drink concurrently (same day, drink distilled at home, filtered water while working).
My 2-sen advice. _________________ Gary A. Lee

I know for sure Diamond water really works. It claims to remove chroline as well. I have a couple of fighting fishes, and whenever I change the water, I just use Diamond water without adding anti-chroline (fishes can't survive with chlorine in the water). The fighting fishes are doing fine even after a few months.
Yes, I agree with Gary. Don't stinge on water. It's a one-off expense, so go for the expensive ones which actually work.

Does your Diamond Water promise to cure cancer and/or aids? Or does drinking Diamond Water makes you live to 100 years old? Or do you use Diamond Water just to ensure that your fighting fishes do well? Just curious, how much is this Diamond Water?
I am not aware of them making such claims. I'm just sharing with you guys that I have diamond water installed, and so far so good. If you want to know more, why not visit their website:-

Sry if I sounded a little too much. I am just pissed that a lot of enethical companies are making all these baseless claims as to health benefits in marketing their products. Th average healthy person is of course not too concerned with these claims when making their purchase however dont forget that there are actually people with chronic illnesses and will grasp at straws in their efforts to alleviate their condition. I am under the impression that Diamond Water "changes the water molecules thereby making it more healthy" for the people drinking it. hmmm I really don't know.
So back to my earlier question, is this Diamond Water expensive?
I am under the impression that Diamond Water "changes the water molecules thereby making it more healthy" for the people drinking it.
changes water molecule you say?
H2O to H 'WTF' 2O!?
I think it changes H20 to H30 so you get 1 xtra molecule or whatever of oxygen. Then if you drink this 'Diamond Water' you easily live to be 100 without sickness, also heard it can cure Aids and Cancer and high blood pressure and diabetes. So WTF else do you wanna know about this Diamond water?
Oh btw did I make this claim regarding the water molecules thing or did I say 'I am under the impression'. Or dont tell me you cant differentiate between the two?

Dear All: no matter what kind or what brand of filtration system u used, the best is after filter boile again....
there is no such thing for cure all the ill and make you live 100
years "water" in this world.
all filtration system depand on the media u use. batter filter media batter effectivness you get.
if you found you house filter system able to give you a very good flow, than you can dump aways the system bcoz it does't effect at all. an only effective of filtering water must be membrane filter which give you 0.2 or 0.45 micron size, but with those pore size you need pressure to get the liquid filter.
it is imposible you have a membrane filter which cost u RM50 to RM100 and still give you a very good flow of water trought ours pipe line.
so, what should we do? eigher u like to wait so call diamand filter to filter your water all most only 5 to 10 liter per day with expensive price... or just fine and normal filter?
as i said: no matter what kind or what brand of filtration system u used, the best is after filter and boile again.... it all about water result and the system price!!!!
to know is you filtration system do work or not, it nothing to do with the system, it all about the media inside u used. that media do the job not the housing.
so your answer is make sure you buy the media with genuin product specification and meterial safety data sheet. get a absolute rating of filter media, not nominal....
those catridge sell at tesco with very cheap price is nominal cartridge, it doest give you gurenttee how many micron it can filter, they might write down 5 microns, but those 50 to 100 micron might not getting filter, same as woven cartridge, those cartridge is imposible to give you absolute rating.
my advice is you can use all those cartridge but please boile the water again.
