u can turn it of once the room has been cooled off. I see no reason u have to turn on for such long hour. Last time, I have a male housemate who loves to turn it on like he is staying in hotel....it cost him bout $160 to $200 per son.

My experience is about 1unit per hour for 1hp aircon, assume 1 month 30days with 25days weekday, 5 days weekend. The calculation is like this roughly:

10am to 7pm (weekday)= 9hrs x 25days=225hrs
+11pm to 9am (weekend)=10hrs x 5days=50hrs
Total 275hrs

According to TNB bill calculation, 1st 500 units @ RM0.30, 2nd 100units@0.39,3rd 100units@0.40,balance units@0.41

If the whole house total consumtion (with washing machine, fridge, hair dryer, computers, handphone charging non-stop, fans, lights on non-stop, cooking using electricity) is about 800-1000 units, then the total amount is:

1st 500 @ 0.30=rm150
100 @ 0.39=rm39
100 @ 0.40=rm40
100 @ 0.41=rm41 or 300 @ 0.41=rm123
total for 800 units RM270 or 1000 units RM352

So you must base on how many total units consumed for the whole month not based on how many hours you use the aircon because you would not know your 275hrs of aircon usage fall into which category (1st 500 or 2nd 100 or 3rd 100 or balance?) or may spilt into different category.

To have an actual figure, maybe you consider install a separate meter in each room that has aircon, but the cost of the meter already cost rm300 and the labour charge+wiring etc may cost rm150, is it worth it to install then?

ya, i know. but then my room is really hot. prefer to on about 7-8 hours a night. no idea how come it will cost so high for your house mate, probably he on the aircon since 9pm - next morning 10am - 11am.. i guess when sleeping time only on the aircon, that is reasonable what?!
