A friend went for a DNA test and loved it so much because to him 'knowledge is power'. Since he knows his genetic makeup and the diseases he is predisposed to, he is better prepared hence will take preemptive actions to tackle his health problems.
Another refused to go because to him 'ignorance is bliss'. Better not to know and live life as it is.

So what type are you?

The structure of DNA was co-discovered in 1950's by James Dewey Watson, Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins. They were awarded the 1962 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine "for their discoveries concerning the molecular structure of nucleic acids and its significance for information transfer in living material".

DNA testing is used very widely in US for crime scene investigation, paternity issues, genealogy (family tree), nutrigenomics and health.

There are a lot of interesting articles related to this topis alone. Check out the link below. Will post more links later.

yeah, its available here. The test is only done by a trained medical doctor but since the dr is not here on a permanent basis, the waiting list can be quite long. My friend arranged it for me and it took abt 4 mths bfor i got my appt.

I think one reason the long waiting list is also bcos the test was very good. It thoroughly covers every aspect of the human anatomy-vital organs, hormonal system, blood, genetic, allergy, nutrition, etc.

The other reason is bcos the price charge is very reasonable. From RM400 (basic DNA package) to RM1500 (DNA plus scans on all major organs-heart, lung, prostrate, kidney, pancreas, uterus, ovary, breast, lymphatic system and a whole long list.

If you don't mind, what is yr problem?. Sorrylah, got to ask bcos of the long waiting list, priority is given to the elderly, the sick and ppl who are diagnosed with certain health conditions who wants second opinions. The other category is ppl whose suffers fr some chronic problem and dr couldn't seems to find the root cause of the problems. Hope u understand.

since i was adopted it will be good to know my genetic problems, if there is any. Had been having some health problems these 2 years, always feeling tired, no energy to carry on life simple task, bone aches all over and i'm only 28 to begin with. Went to a number of doctors and one diagnose me as 'chronic fatigue syndrome' . Been eating tones of supplements but doesn't seems to be working. Since i'm getting married soon, how am i to cope with married life if i can't take care of my self? So pls let me know abt this DNA testing. OK?

Dna will be the key to a lot of thgs in the future. I have a good friend who is an agency manager for a big insurance company. According to him, in Singapore the section where they ask " have you seen a doctor lately? " now has " have you done a DNA test recently? " Interesting question!

On top of that, there is a lot of debate going on in US rgd the role of DNA testing in the insurance industry. On one hand it might be good for the insurance industry to know yr genetic makeup so that they can limit their liability payment, example if you are diagnose with Parkinson gene, they might not cover this risk. But on the other hand the detractors are arguing that you are infringing on human right bcos you discriminate ppl with such genetic problems....well the debate is very hot in US bcos they are way advance in utilizing this new technology. As for we all in Msia it might take us a few yrs to catch up. But by the time the technology is widely available and used here, i think the insurance industry will aredi have some clause to cover it.

For example, currently if you do a blood test anywhere in Msia and discover u have some problems, you quickly buy medical card or life insurance. Shoud u be hospitalized and make yr claims later, insurance company will not pay u bcos its a pre-existing condition. They have their ways of finding out whether you carry out these blood test bcos all these are recorded, so there is no way you can get ard it.

But on the other hand, if you do DNA test in US, your records cannot be used to deny u the payment for insurance claims bcos this test is still not accepted as valid. Hence there are a number of ppl who are currently using DNA test to check on their health bfor deciding on insurance purchase.

So basically i find there are a lot of benefits that can be derived fr DNA testing. You'll never know the next time you wanna buy insurance they have this question ' have u done a DNA test recently". By that time, i think it will be too late for you aredi, no escape....

bizi...bizi...with election heh...heh....Now free a bit to KPC here!

I am very sorry if i did not get back to some of you who asked me questions rgd the DNA testing. Since i'm not in this bisness pls re-direct yr Q&A to my friend at healthywealthy88@gmail.com. What i can share with you is my own experience with regards to the testing. Personally i think its a great diagnostic tool but to those who are keen to do it, you must be mentally prepared to accept the results esp if its bad news.

As for me, i was diagnosed with Parkinson gene (mid 40's). Somehow when the doctor told me the findings, i was not surprised becoz my maternal grandma had it when she was in her late sixties. But that doesn't mean i heartily accepted the results as God's truth. My hope was either i expired bfor the disease strike or i could prolong it from occurring during my prime years, lets say in my 80's instead of 60's. How the dna helped me was to understand my body better, its functions and intricacies. It spurs my interest in the area of Parkinson disease(PD), the current research and experimental drugs or nutritions that might delay the onset of this dreaded disease. It had also helped my spouse to mentally and psychologically accept this disease 20 to 30 years bfor i'm strike with it. This doesn't mean i'm obsessed with my condition bcos at the end of the day we all will die, right? It just provide me with some comfort knowing that my family will be financially and psychologically ready should i be strike with it in the later part of my life. That's all to it.
